Karan Feder is an expert in the field of creative direction and consumer product design and development. A graduate of the prestigious Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and an award-winning designer in both the entertainment and fashion industries, Karan has designed costumes for film, television and theater and received the Drama Logue Critics Award honoring the best in theater Costume Design. A few of her notable credits include: A River Runs Through It; The Wonder Years; The Golden Girls; Ice Capades; A League of Their Own; Empty Nest; Coming to America; Love Street; Star Trek; Unsolved Mysteries; Count on Me; Studio 59; Into The Night; Why We Have a Body; Count DeClues’ Mystery Castle; The Disputation and General Hospital.
Karan’s eponymous fashion collection was awarded the International Fresh Face Award honoring the best new design talent in the children’s wear industry and was nominated for an Earnie Award recognizing design excellence in the accessories/handbag market. The Karan Feder Studio brands boast notable wholesale accounts such as Neiman Marcus; Saks Fifth Avenue; Fred Segal; Nordstrom; Barneys New York and Hot Topic. The company’s products have been featured in Elle; Lucky; Women’s Wear Daily; Seventeen; Sportswear International; Child; Family Life; Gifts & Decorative Accessories; The Swim Journal and The Los Angeles Times. Karan’s award-winning handbags are often seen on episodic television.
Karan also has a working background in the museum field with a focus on historic performance and entertainment costume. As a volunteer Costume Collection Manager for the Liberace Museum, she coordinated, selected, prepped, packed and processed costumes for an international traveling exhibition and was the guest curator for two original costume exhibitions mounted at the Liberace Museum. Karan has coauthored a handful of published books in support and promotion of classic entertainment costume.
Karan is proud to serve on the Costume Society of America's (CSA) Executive Board and on CSA's Award of Excellence in Costume Design selection committee. Karan currently serves on the Fashion Design Advisory Boards for The International Academy of Design and Technology. She maintains membership with the American Association of Museums; American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works and the Costume Society of America. She is a voting member of the Costume Designers Guild and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (The Emmys).
